Installation
Last updated 6 October 2026
Before you import
The project must already use the Universal Render Pipeline. Check the full list in Overview.
Import the package
- Open the Package Manager, find Easy Weather under My Assets and import it.
- The files land in
Assets/Kaira Digital Arts/EasyWeather. - The Quick Start window opens by itself the first time (once for every new version of the asset). You can open it any time from Tools > Kaira Digital Arts > Easy Weather.
Importing changes no project settings. The Quick Start window only changes a setting when you press its Fix button.
Project settings
Easy Weather needs a few URP settings. The Quick Start window checks every URP asset the project uses (the Graphics default and the one of each Quality level), because a renderer feature added to one quality level is missing as soon as the game switches to another.
| Setting | Why it is needed | Fixed by Quick Start |
|---|---|---|
| Universal Render Pipeline active | All shaders and the fog pass are URP only | No. Assign a URP asset in Project Settings > Graphics |
| Render Graph enabled | The volumetric fog pass is recorded through Render Graph. In Compatibility Mode it is never drawn, without any error | No. Turn Compatibility Mode off in Project Settings > Graphics > URP > Render Graph |
| KDA Volumetric Fog Feature on the renderer | Draws the screen space fog | Yes, on the default renderer of every URP asset |
| Depth Texture | The fog reads each pixel's scene depth | Yes |
| Opaque Texture | Refraction in the demo water. Optional if you do not use that shader | Yes |
| Light Cookies | Cloud shadows reach the ground as a cookie on the sun light | Yes. Only raised while a Cloud Module in the scene has cloud shadows on |
| Linear color space | Sky gradients and light colors are authored for Linear. Gamma washes the sky out | Yes |
| Lens Flare Depth Occlusion Feature | Only needed when a scene uses lens flare occlusion | Yes |
Manual setup
If you prefer to set things up yourself:
- Select each URP Renderer asset your quality levels use, press Add Renderer Feature and choose KDA Volumetric Fog Feature.
- On each URP asset, turn on Depth Texture, Light Cookies (for Cloud shadows) and, if you use the demo water, Opaque Texture.
- Set the project to Linear color space (Project Settings > Player).
- Drag
Content/Prefabs/EasyWeather.prefabinto the scene. - In the Lighting window, set Environment > Skybox Material to
KDA_Skyboxand turn Unity's own fog off. - Make sure one camera is tagged MainCamera.
- Disable any other directional light in the scene. Easy Weather brings its own sun.
- On the Cloud Module, press Auto-Find Materials (Materials & Setup) and, if the cloud mesh list is empty, Auto-Find Cloud Meshes (3D Clouds). On the Celestial Module, press Auto-Find References.
For lens flare occlusion, follow Lens flare occlusion.
Moving the package folder
You can move the EasyWeather folder anywhere inside Assets. Nothing in the asset depends on its path. Move it from Unity's Project window, not from the file explorer, so the .meta files and all references go with it.
