System overview

Last updated 6 October 2026

Everything lives under one prefab. EasyWeatherManager on the root is the entry point: it holds a reference to every module, creates the audio sources, and updates every module once per frame, in Edit Mode too.

Hierarchy

text
EasyWeather EasyWeatherManager
TimeModule clock, day counter, sun rotation, sun and moon switching
CelestialModule light, ambient light, sun, moon and sky colors
CloudModule 3D, 2D and far clouds, cloud shadows, fog
Skydome_Volumetric Clouds the sky dome mesh, follows the camera
    VolumetricClouds_Container the generated 3D clouds
  DetailModule stars, galaxy, aurora
WeatherEffectsModule weather presets, scheduling, weather audio
EasyEventsModule UnityEvents for time and weather
  MainLight the sun
AudioSources weather, wind, thunder, ambient and ambience sources
Global Volume created only when the scene has no global Volume

While a weather preset with a post processing profile runs, two more volumes (WeatherVolume_A and WeatherVolume_B) exist at runtime. They are hidden and not saved.

Update order

Every frame the manager updates the modules in this order:

  1. Time Module
  2. Celestial Module
  3. Cloud Module
  4. Detail Module
  5. Weather Effects Module
  6. Events Module

A module that is missing or disabled is skipped. Turning Auto Update off on the manager stops all updates; you then call the modules yourself.

Time drives everything

The Time Module advances the clock and rotates the sun. The other modules read the current time of day and evaluate their colors and values from it. That is why most settings come in pairs: a fixed value, and a 24 hour curve or gradient you can switch to. Curves and gradients run over one full day (0 is midnight, 12 is noon, 24 is midnight again).

How weather fits in

A weather preset does not replace the modules. It hands chosen values (sky colors, light, ambient, cloud coverage, fog and so on) to the Weather Effects Module, which blends them in over the preset's transition, holds them while the weather runs, and gives them back to the time of day when it ends. See Weather presets.

Rendering pieces

  • KDA_Skybox draws the sky, the sun, the moon, the stars, the galaxy, the aurora and the far clouds. It is the scene's skybox material.
  • The sky dome (KDA_Skydome) carries the 2D cloud layer and the sky fog. It follows the camera and is scaled to the camera's far clip plane.
  • The 3D clouds use StylizedFluffyCloud.
  • KDAVolumetricFogFeature is a URP renderer feature that draws the screen space fog. See Fog.
  • Cloud shadows are a light cookie on the sun. See Cloud shadows.
