Getting started

This page takes you from an empty scene to a running day cycle with weather. It assumes the project settings from Installation are in place.
Add Easy Weather to a scene
- Open Tools > Kaira Digital Arts > Easy Weather.
- In Setup Status, press Fix All, or Fix on each red row.
- In Scene Setup, choose where the system goes. The position starts at the world origin. Pick in Scene lets you click a point in the Scene view, Scene Center guesses the middle of your terrain or of everything rendered. The position matters because the sky follows the camera, but 3D clouds in Scene Area mode are placed around it.
- If the scene already has a directional light, choose what happens to it. Disable is the default.
- Press Add Easy Weather to Scene.
- Press Play.
The setup is a single undo step. It adds the EasyWeather prefab, assigns the skybox material, turns Unity's built-in fog off, points the sky dome at your main camera, and fills in every module's references, including the cloud mesh list. Details are on the Quick Start window page.
Set the time of day
Select the TimeModule object under EasyWeather.
- Time Controls at the top has Play and Pause, plus Dawn, Noon, Dusk and Midnight buttons.
- Time Progression has the current time slider and the day speed.
daySpeed is a multiplier: 1 is real time, 60 makes one game hour last one real minute (a full day in 24 minutes), and the maximum is 1000.
The shipped prefab runs at a Day Speed of 1, which is real time. Raise it, or use the 60x preset, to watch the cycle move.
Pressing Play in Time Controls runs the clock in Edit Mode too, so you can watch a whole day in the Scene view without entering Play Mode. More on the Time Module page.
Try the weather
The prefab's Weather Effects Module ships with the three demo presets (Light Rain, Heavy Rain and Snow) and with automatic weather on. The first day always stays clear while Skip First Day is on.
To see weather right away, enter Play Mode, select the WeatherEffectsModule object and press Start Random Weather. Stop Weather ends it. From code:
using KairaDigitalArts;
EasyWeatherManager.instance.weatherEffectsModule.StartWeatherByName("Heavy Rain");Weather only runs in Play Mode. See Weather Effects Module and Weather presets.
Open the demo scene
Press Open Demo Scene in the Quick Start window, or open Demo/Scenes/EasyWeatherDemo. Number keys switch the weather, [ and ] move the clock by an hour. See Demo scene.
Next steps
- System overview explains how the prefab is built.
- Weather presets shows how to make your own weather.
- Scripting guide has code for the common tasks.
